All help

Always Connected

Always Connected keeps the link to your heater open in the background: with the screen off, after you swipe the app away, after the phone restarts and after an app update. That's what lets CO Guard, Timers and King Thermostat keep working while the phone is in your pocket.

The status chip

  • Connected: readings are live.
  • Weak signal: the heater answered late. Move closer.
  • Reconnecting…: the link dropped. The app keeps trying on its own.
  • Held by another phone: another phone or app has the heater. Close it there, or tap Hand Off on that phone.
  • Handed off: you handed the heater to another phone. Tap Take Back to reclaim it.

The ongoing notification

Android needs a notification to keep a Bluetooth link running in the background. It's silent and only shows the heater's status.

Overnight readiness

While the phone sleeps, the app wakes it for a moment now and then to check on the heater, but only when something needs it: a timer, King Thermostat, Settings Guard, or CO Guard while a heater with a CO sensor runs. With nothing switched on, it never wakes the phone.

More → Overnight readiness checks the phone settings this depends on, and opens the right Android page for any that need changing:

  • Notifications: needed for the ongoing notification and CO alarms.
  • Alarms & reminders: lets timers and checks run on time while the phone sleeps unplugged.
  • Battery use: Unrestricted: recommended overnight.
  • Background activity: must not be restricted.
  • Bluetooth reaches about 10 m, and less through metal walls.
  • Some phones stop background apps to save battery. In Android's settings for Diesel Heater King, set battery use to Unrestricted.

Reconnecting never sends a command. The app only reads the heater's status until you, or an automation you turned on, ask for a change.
